Greetings Members,

For now, we’ve mitigated the situation by dropping sessions with the member we were hearing the malformed attribute from and notified their NOC.

We are also going to plan an emergency maintenance to upgrade our version of BIRD (and its dependencies) in the near future that should filter this malformed attribute from being advertised to other members. To reiterate, this is only affecting members with Juniper routers as far as we can tell. There’s a perfect storm that enables this to happen, unfortunately.

The IPv6 route server sessions are stable at this time.

If you see any further issues, please let us know.

Regards,

Randy Epstein

Subject: IPv6 Route Server sessions down at FL-IX

Dear Members,

We are aware of an issue affecting both FL-IX and CIX-ATL v6 route server sessions for members using Juniper routers, related to a received malformed attribute. This is similar to the issue we experienced last week but on v4 sessions.

This is not affecting members at CIX-NoVA as we are running a newer version of BIRD which blocks this attribute.

We will arrange to upgrade our route server software (and related dependencies) as soon as possible. In the meantime, we are trying to track down the source of the malformed attribute so we can filter and contact the member’s NOC.

Once we have an update, we will let you know.

Regards,

Randy Epstein
