Additional Note Regarding Tonight's Maintenance at FL-IX -- PLEASE READ
by Randy Epstein 22 Jul '26

22 Jul '26
Dear FL-IX Members, This maintenance has successfully concluded, but please note: It seems some members have already enabled this feature on their end. This feature will raise the maximum-prefixes you receive from our route servers. Please raise maximum prefix limits received from our route servers as follows: IPv4: 206.41.108.4 and 206.41.108.5 – Maximum prefix: 450k (450000) IPv6: 2001:504:40:108::1:4 and 2001:504:40:108::1:5 – Maximum prefix: 250k (250000) ASN: 63221 Regarding Add-Path: This enhancement allows the route servers to advertise multiple paths for the same prefix, giving you more routing options and improved path diversity for better traffic engineering and redundancy. Add-Path is defined in RFC 7911 – Advertisement of Multiple Paths in BGP. To use this capability: If you’d like to take advantage of Add-Path, you’ll need to enable the capability on your side and restart your BGP session with the route servers. Configuration guides by vendor: Juniper (Junos OS): Advertising Multiple Paths in BGP Cisco IOS / IOS XE: BGP Additional Paths Configuration Guide Cisco IOS-XR: Implementing BGP – Additional Paths Arista EOS: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Nokia SR-OS: BGP Add-Path Important: When enabling Add-Path, pay close attention to your max-prefix limits. Since you may receive additional paths, you should review and increase your max-prefix settings if needed to avoid session flaps. If you already have the ADD-PATH feature enabled on your side, please raise your max-prefix filter to 450k prefixes. This maintenance will allow us to introduce a feature called ADD-PATH (Read about it here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7947) that many of our members have been asking for. We have been testing this feature at CIX-NoVA for some time, and we feel we are ready to implement it now at both FL-IX and CIX-ATL. Since adding this feature requires sessions to reestablish, you will see your BGP sessions with the route servers go down momentarily. We are staging this so that this will be added to one route server at a time. Sessions will drop first on rs01 (206.71.12.4/2001:504:40:12::1:4), reestablish, stabilize, and then we will add the feature to rs02 (206.71.12.5/2001:504:40:12::1:5) and the process will repeat on that route server. If all goes smoothly, this should not be disruptive to our members. Please assure that you have sessions established to both servers before the maintenance period. The maintenance period will be from 2am-3am, and most likely will be completed within 30 minutes of commencement. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our NOC at noc(a)communityix.org. MAINTENANCE CONCLUDED: FL-IX route server maintenance - Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026 @ 1am EDT
by Randy Epstein 22 Jul '26

22 Jul '26
Dear FL-IX Members, This maintenance has successfully concluded, but please note: It seems some members have already enabled this feature on their end. This feature will raise the maximum-prefixes you receive from our route servers by about 70k prefixes. I see a handful of sessions down on rs01 (206.41.108.4). Please raise your maximum-prefix filter to 450,000 on both sessions (206.41.108.4 and 206.41.108.5) and clear any session that is down due to max-prefix reached.
